Abstract
Authors have presented here a statistical observation of 196 cases of hand injuries treated in our clinic during the period of two years, i.e., from Jan. 1962 to Dec. 1963 and also tried to summarize the modern trends of treatment in those injuries.
The proportion of hand injuries in male to female is around two to one and most of the severe forms were found in the former.
As to the type of injury, the soft tissue injury comes first and fracture is next in order.
Of the mode of injuries, the fault comes first and next, machinary wound and the like which should be considered as industrial accident account about thirty-two percent of total injuries.
About twenty percent of total cases had inappropriate treatment either at bone-setter or home prior to hospital visit.
Whereas the fundamental approach of the treatment has been nearly established by many workers in this field, each case nevertheless presents a highly specific, individual problem and its indication of treatment requires surely best quality of surgical thinking and experience.
We believe that hand injuries deserves the best attention and care of all the surgeons concerned.
